Bingham County was established on January 13, 1885, with its county seat at Blackfoot. The county was made up from the east and northern parts of Oneida County. It was named by William M. Bunn, the Territorial Governor, for his friend Henry Harrison Bingham, who was a Pensylvania Congressman. .
